| Hagstrom Viking 2 Electric Guitar - Vintage Sunburst
During the filming for the 1968 TV Special, "Elvis", a 1968 Red Hagstrom Viking II was borrowed for use by Elvis in several segments of the show including a stand up performance in front of a live crowd. The guitar through the years has been mistaken as his and often referred to as the "Elvis guitar". The guitar in fact belonged to Al Casey, who was one of the session players on that show. During the recent Hagstrom renaissance the Hagstrom Viking II was once again put into production as is presented here in Vintage Sunburst. The body has been crafted from Basswood and utilises a bolt-on Maple neck, it has Hagstrom's signature Resinator fretboard and the neck also has their H-type truss rod design. The pick-ups are hum-buckers - namely Hagstrom Custom 58N at the neck position with a Custom 58B at the bridge position. The bridge is a long travel tune-o-matic model with a stop bar tail piece, each pick-up has its own tone and volume control and a 3 way toggle switch manages the pick-up selection. £409
| Hagstrom F200P Electric Guitar Cream
At the entry level point of the Hagstrom range sites the F-200P which is a retro-styled guitar crafted from 45mm thick Mahogany featuring a body style that is a strange mix of the classic S-type crossed with the bevelled edges of the SG. The neck uses Nato wood and is set into the body, as on all Hagstrom models it is complemented by the “Resinator” fret board and has 21 medium frets with inlaid Pearl dot markers. Yet again this model utilises the Hagstrom H-type light alloy truss rod that provides an ultra-thin neck and low string action. Interestingly, although the pick-ups appear to be the Soap-bar hum-bucking type set directly into the body, they are in fact H90 Alnico 5 single coil models and are managed via a 3 way selector switch. A single tone and additional volume control are used to attenuate and equalise the pick-ups and adjacent to these on the front face of the instrument is the jack input. The bridge and block stop tailpiece includes Hagstrom’s own Full Contact Tremolo system which Hagstrom claim offers more contiguous contact than any other system on the market and helps to transfer maximum vibration into the body for enhanced resonance. The die-cast machine heads, FCS-1 Tremolo system and jack insert have all been chrome plated and the scratch plate is coloured tortoise shell to complete the retro styling on the guitar which is finished in attractive cream. £389
